Tottenham Hotspur and AC Milan made attempts to sign Barcelona’s Franck Kessié in the winter market.
That’s according to Sport, who detail why Spurs and the Serie A winners failed to sign the 26-year-old in January.
The midfielder left Milan as a free agent and joined the La Liga side last summer. He has made eight starts in all competitions this season, out of which only two have come in the league.
Kessié’s lack of game time at the Catalan club saw Tottenham and the Rossoneri try to take him away from the Camp Nou in the last window. The two sides had knocked on the player’s door.
Regarding the north London club, it’s claimed they ‘tried to bring positions closer’ to carry out the deal in January, but they were met with a refusal from the Ivory Coast international. Despite the noise, neither Xavi Hernández nor the player opted for a transfer.
Kessié’s plan was to continue at the club unless the manager explicitly asked him to leave. The midfielder was ‘convinced’ sooner or later ‘his time would come’ at Barcelona and this is why he didn’t entertain the approaches made by Tottenham and Milan.
