Philippe Coutinho’s post-Aston Villa resurgence at Vasco da Gama is making headlines in Brazil.

The Brazilian press is pointing out the former Aston Villa midfielder is experiencing his best run of minutes in years.

At 32-years-of-age he’s already reached 3,050 minutes of action in 2025. Delivering 11 goals and four assists along the way.

Such a level of involvement had not been seen since the 2018/19 season. In that campaign Coutinho managed just over 3,000 minutes. Splitting his time between Barcelona and the Brazil national team, a campaign that ended with La Liga and Copa América titles.

The report underlines that his current form has gone hand in hand with Vasco’s improvement. The Rio side are unbeaten in their last seven matches. A run that secured a place in the Copa do Brasil semi-finals and lifted them clear of the relegation zone in the Brazilian league.

Coutinho first arrived at Vasco in 2024 on loan from Aston Villa, but his impact was minimal and his return was considered disappointing. Things changed after he cut ties with the Premier League club and signed permanently with the Brazilian side.

Now, his name is back in the conversation for the national team. The story claims he could even feature in Carlo Ancelotti’s squad announcement on Wednesday. That’s for upcoming friendlies against South Korea and Japan.

For a player many had written off after his stints at Liverpool, Barcelona and Aston Villa, Coutinho’s revival in Rio is one of the most notable comebacks in Brazilian football this year.
