Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino has less than six months left on his deal and it has seen a few clubs in England and across Europe to closely follow his situation at Anfield.
Inter Milan have plans to bolster their attack next season and have their eyes on the 31-year-old.
That’s according to Gazzetta dello Sport, who state the forward ‘could really leave’ the Reds as a free agent after this season.
Firmino’s last outing for Liverpool was in November and has further dropped down the pecking order after the Reds added Cody Gakpo to their squad this month.
It’s claimed the Brazil international has no shortage of suitors in the Premier League, which Inter are aware of and are ‘ready to play their cards’ to sign him for free in the summer.
The Nerazzurri making an approach for Firmino will directly depend on Romelu Lukaku’s future.
The Belgian is on loan from Chelsea and it has cost the Italian club around €20m, and it would cost them more than that to retain Lukaku beyond this season.
Inter are yet to make a decision on Lukaku, while they have ‘started to do the accounts’ over a potential deal for the Liverpool player, who earns €10m per year with at Anfield.
The Italian club can take advantage of the Growth Decree to convince the South American, while also making sure they don’t displease their president, Steven Zhang.
It’ll be interesting to see how this case develops, but the feeling is that Firmino’s long-term future seems to be away from Liverpool.
