SC Freiburg goalkeeper Mark Flekken has a ‘verbal agreement’ to join Brentford, according to claims from Germany.
Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg reports that following two years of interest from the Bees in the signing, the player has now reached a deal to join the Premier League side.
The story claims Flekken will, in the coming days, sign a contract with Brentford committing himself to the club until 2028.
A deal with Freiburg was no problem for the Bees, who now just need to trigger the €13m release clause he has with the Bundesliga side, dismissing any need for long negotiations.
Plettenberg insists that this is ‘almost a done deal’, so it seems we just need to wait for Flekken to sign the papers and Brentford will soon make the move official.
Back in March, we had already seen reports from the German media claiming the Bees saw Flekken as an ‘ideal solution’ to replace David Raya, who wasn’t giving good signs about a contract renewal.
Now with another option for the position, Brentford can feel at ease to handle the Spaniard’s situation.
