Newcastle United are in contention to sign Sporting’s Ousmane Diomande in the summer window.

The Portuguese press have regularly covered the Magpies’ interest in the defender over the past few months. Back in January, Newcastle sent a scout to watch him live in action.

On April 24th, A Bola reported Eddie Howe’s side are ahead of others in the race to sign the 21-year-old, who has an €80m buyout clause.

Wednesday’s edition of O Jogo continues to report about the Premier League club’s desire to secure his services.

The Ivory Coast international arrived at Sporting from FC Midtjylland in January 2023 and has already played 99 games for them. He’s in contention to make his 100th appearance for the Lions against Benfica at the Estádio da Luz on Saturday.

This not only highlights his importance for the Primeira Liga club but also shows his high level.

Diomande’s contract is until 2027, although the newspaper claims he could move to England in the upcoming window. They add Newcastle in particular are keen on signing him.

The player has a €80m clause while earlier claims have stated Sporting may accept a fee around €50-60m.
