STVV defender Ameen Al-Dakhil has admitted Burnley manager Vincent Kompany called him personally about a move as he waits to see if the Clarets will revive their interest from the summer.
Het Belang Van Limburg cover the player and interest from Burnley today, stating that the 20-year-old is ‘quietly on the brink of his dream transfer to Burnley.’
They explain that it is ‘clear’ Al-Dakhil will be on the move in the coming weeks, with those in charge at Burnley ‘preparing’ for the defender to arrive at Turf Moor.
They are yet to make a bid, but STVV are ‘waiting’ for the official bid from Vincent Kompany and co to arrive in this window.
The Clarets were keen in the summer transfer window and made several bids to secure the youngster’s signature but couldn’t get a deal over the line.
Al-Dakhil has spoken about that failed move and made it clear in comments in September and October that he was keen on the switch.
That’s a stance he has maintained, discussing Burnley’s interest today and revealing he has already spoken to Kompany on the phone.
“In the summer, Kompany called me personally, but not in recent weeks,” HBVL report him saying at a press conference today.
“Whether I’m ready to leave? I hope so. It’s hard to estimate that beforehand, of course. I’m not too worried about it either. I play at STVV and can still learn every day here. That is what matters for a 20-year-old player.
“But I have my advantages. I am a big defender and have my speed. I have to exploit that in the future. As a young lad, I always dreamed of the Premier League.
“Of playing football for Manchester United. But I realise all too well that it is not many given to take that big step.
“I cannot estimate that (when his last game will be). I have deliberately asked my manager to keep the concrete info away from me as much as possible until things are really finalised.”
