When we flicked through the Italian newspapers on Tuesday morning, we were met with a bunch of articles discussing Sergej Milinkovic-Savic’s situation at Lazio and how the club were ‘waiting’ for offers.

To save you yet another tedious and boring article about the saga, we decided to leave it alone, but La Repubblica have thrown a gallon of lighter fluid on the dying embers via their website.

The newspaper claim Real Madrid have ‘decided to accelerate’ their attempts to sign Paul Pogba, with whom they have had an ‘agreement for some time’, which has led Manchester United to turn their attention to the Serbia international.

In fact, the outlet state the operation is ‘well underway’ for the Lazio star, who is ‘in the process’ of being transferred to the Premier League club on a ‘rich’ five-year contract.

An agreement between the two clubs is apparently ‘practically done’ with a base fee of €75m + bonuses.

Considering the newspapers on Tuesday morning were saying that Claudio Lotito was waiting for at least €90m, that seems a bit low, but we guess it could all depend on how plentiful and how easily attainable said bonuses are.

This is certainly a bold claim from La Repubblica, and we’ll have to see if it pays off for them.
