Peruvian outlet Depor this week features an interesting interview with Watford defender Andres Aguilar.
They had a lot to talk about the youngster’s career, as despite being born in England, he has a Peruvian passport and wants to play for the South American country.
The bigger focus, however, was on the midfielder’s future, since his contract with Watford expires this summer.
It all started with Depor asking Aguilar how his season has been, with him revealing that his appearances for the Hornets’ youth ranks drew the attention of other clubs.
“It’s been a great year. I played more than 2,000 minutes in the tournaments we participated in. This regularity allowed several European clubs, through their scouts, to notice me.”
Then he was asked if he’s already received offers, and he had no problem talking about that.
“There are proposals from France, Germany, Belgium and here in England. Now I have to sit down with my agent to analyse which one is best for me. My contract with Watford ends in June and I’ll be free player.”
Aguilar is only 18, and even though it’s likely he’d arrive at a new club’s academy, he was asked if there’s any chance he could be joining a first team this summer.
“There are a couple of clubs where I can aspire to the first team. We also have to evaluate more aspects. Therefore, we’re going to take a prudent time to make a decision.”
Born in Stevenage, Aguilar moved to Spain as an infant. The family returned to London when he was 11, and after playing for local clubs, he drew attention from Watford scouts at 15. Now it seems his time there wasn’t enough to get a professional contract with the club.
