Ruslan Malinovskyi was one of the players on Tottenham Hotspur’s agenda, but they were unable to take him away from Atalanta in the final weeks of the summer transfer window.

Apart from the north London club, Marseille were credited with an interest in the 29-year-old. There were reports of a potential swap deal with the Serie A side, but that also didn’t go through.

The attacking midfielder preferred to make a switch to Tottenham, just like he was open to joining the Ligue 1 club, in the recently concluded window.

That’s according to Tutto Atalanta, who state the Ukraine international will continue with his current employer, ‘at least until January’, when the mid-season window opens.

Malinovskyi has a goal and an assist to his name from three matches this campaign after he found the back of the net in his side’s 1-1 draw against AC Milan at the Gewiss Stadium on August 21st.

Prior to the clash against the Italian champions, Gian Piero Gasperini urged Atalanta to sign a player who can operate in the same position as the 29-year-old.

Unfortunately for the manager, that didn’t happen.

Tutto Atalanta state it will be necessary to see the Ukrainian’s role under Gasperini and if he is not utilised regularly, Malinovskyi’s case will be discussed again in the winter market.

If that were to happen, then Tottenham, Marseille and others who showed interest in him in the summer could try to sign the player in January.
