Following initial reports this week saying Naby Keita is on the verge of leaving Liverpool, Sky Sport Germany are today back with more claims about the midfielder.
The outlet comes up to repeat that the 27-year-old is about to walk away from the Reds at the end of his contract next summer, this time with an interesting take, saying the player himself ‘has no plans to extend’ his deal with the Anfield side.
According to Sky, talks for a new contract have already taken place, but are ‘no longer being intensively conducted’, with Keita indeed planning a move out of Liverpool.
The story definitely draws some attention for describing the situation as the player giving up on the Reds, especially by calling them a ‘crisis club’. It’s even mentioned that the player only started in Jurgen Klopp’s side four times, but at no time it’s said the club may not be interested in keeping him anyway.
Indeed, the article appears a little flattering to the player.
Sky writes that ‘several top clubs’ have already been in touch to sign Keita, and a return to the Bundesliga is ‘not out of the question’. Liverpool, meanwhile, already have other targets for midfield, with Jude Bellingham getting named as their top desire for the summer window.
The Reds are said to be ‘working on’ that signing.
