In August, Sheffield United invested €3m to sign Nils Zätterström from Malmö FF.
The Sweden international arrived at Bramall Lane when Rubén Sellés was in charge, and then Chris Wilder replaced the latter in September.
Zätterström is yet to make his debut for Sheffield United’s senior team and has had to settle for one appearance with their U21s. Genoa have opened their door for him in the winter market.
Two days ago, we covered claims from Italy that the Serie A side had made an offer. Gazzetta dello Sport explained Genoa are looking to sign Zätterström on initial loan with an option to buy.
On Thursday, TeleNord, a source local to Genoa, stated the club had reached an agreement with Sheffield United.
Sky Italia now cover the latest as they shared a video of the centre-back arriving in Milan on Thursday evening.
They report the Italian club are ready to welcome the Swede, after agreeing a deal for AS Roma’s Tommaso Baldanzi. According to Sky, Zätterström will make a short trip from Milan to Genoa, where he will undergo medical tests.
TuttoMercatoWeb also report he has already arrived in the Italy to complete his move to Genoa.
Zätterström has met Genoa manager Daniele De Rossi and will carry out his medical on Friday. TMW state Genoa will sign the Sheffield United defender on loan with an option to buy set at €5.5m.
Sheffield United player arrives in Italy for new adventure
Zätterström needs to clear the medical tests and sign the contract with Genoa for them to make his arrival official. All this should happen in the next few hours.
A move to Italy provides the Swede an opportunity to enjoy minutes on the pitch that weren’t available to him at Sheffield United.
Journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has posted a video of Zätterström arriving in Milan.
