At the weekend, we covered claims from Paraguay which explained Cerro Porteño’s Diego León had travelled to England to carry out transfer formalities to join Manchester United.

La Nación now state the left-back has cleared his medical tests with the Red Devils.

The 17-year-old’s move to Manchester United will be announced soon and that’s the only thing missing for his transfer to be made official.

The Premier League side will pay an initial fee of $4m to Cerro Porteño, although earlier claims have mentioned different figures. The youngster will arrive at Manchester United in the summer, after he turns 18 years of age in April.

La Nación report the young defender will be able to fulfil his ‘dream’ of signing for Manchester United.

León was already pictured at Old Trafford and with Manchester United’s Argentine duo of Lisandro Martínez and Alejandro Garnacho.

The fullback will now return to Cerro Porteño, after which he will join Paraguay U20s for the South American U20 championship this month in Venezuela. The Paraguayan FA’s coordinator, Elvio Paolorroso, has heaped praise on León’s commitment.

“We played a friendly against Cerro Porteño at Carde. I highlight León’s commitment, he could have asked for permission (not to), but no. He played the game and from there he went to the airport to go to Manchester United,” he told 650 AM.
