In the final days of the last transfer window, Ibrahim Amadou arrived at Norwich City on loan from Sevilla.
The 26-year-old joined Sevilla from Lille in 2018, but Julen Lopetegui’s arrival at the La Liga club in the summer forced Amadou to move to Norwich.
France Football interviewed the versatile player, and he revealed to have other options before arriving at Carrow Road and also explained why he decided to join Norwich.
“At the end of last season, I had the idea of staying in Seville. But when the new coach arrived, he made me understand that he did not necessarily count on me and that he had players of his own. We decided to leave and not stay in Seville without playing time,” he told France Football.
“In fact, he summoned all the players who had been recruited the previous summer. He said that he didn’t rely on us and that if we found something, it was better for us. He was candid with the players.”
“My priority was either to stay in Spain or to go to England on loan. I had opportunities to go elsewhere, I was not necessarily interested.
“In fact, I didn’t really want to come back to France for the moment. I wanted to stay abroad. It’s not a question of not wanting to go to France, but I rather liked my experience in Spain and the English Championship, I wanted to play there for a while.”
Norwich have an option to sign Amadou on a permanent deal beyond this season. However, he isn’t clear whether or not he will continue with the English club, but admitted a return to Sevilla is unlikely if Lopetegui is still charge.
“You never know what can happen. I think that, in any case, if it is always the same coach in Seville, it will be complicated to go back there,” he stressed.
Amadou has made 11 appearances in all competitions for the Canaries this season and Daniel Farke has used him in the heart of the back four and also in the defensive midfield position.
