There may be just a couple of months left on Gustavo Scarpa’s contract with Palmeiras, and even though he’ll be packing his bags to sign for Nottingham Forest, he still can’t have his mind on that move.
The Verdão are currently on top of the Brazilian league table, with a ten-point difference to second place and only five fixtures to go. So it’s nearly safe to say they’re winning that title, but the players must remain focused on the objective.
UOL today feature an interview with Scarpa where they talk about the two ‘countdowns’ he’s been having lately. Those are for the move to Nottingham Forest and also to become a father. He claims that despite those distractions, he’s still having the best season in his career.
“It’s a weight of, like, if you play badly, people will say you don’t have your head here. And it was a conflict of emotions that I managed to deal with really well, thank God. Winning this war in the mind is a little difficult, but it worked,” Gustavo Scarpa told UOL.
Regarding having a young child in England, Scarpa claims there’s someone at Nottingham Forest who’ll help him with that.
“The club’s doctor is Portuguese. So, it will make it a little easier to learn how things work in the city and such.”
As widely covered by the Brazilian media, Scarpa signed a pre-agreement with Nottingham Forest to arrive as a free agent in January. So the Reds won’t have to spend to take him from Palmeiras, for whom he’s been playing since 2018.
Despite confirming his departure, the player is still to directly talk about joining the Premier League side, or mention the club’s name, and that’s likely to only happen once things become official.
