After being heavily linked to Manchester United last week, Antonio Conte is now close to becoming the new Tottenham Hotspur manager.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was able to retain his position after overseeing the 3-0 victory against Spurs at the weekend.
The defeat for the north London club resulted in them showing the exit door to Nuno Espírito Santo on Monday. The Italian coach’s arrival should be made official in the coming hours.
According to FcInterNews, Conte is thinking about Inter Milan star Nicolò Barella for Spurs. The former Chelsea manager brought the Italy international to the San Siro and changed his career.
It’s claimed the midfielder isn’t interested in joining Spurs and he would ‘only be tempted by Manchester United’.
The Nerazzurri want to secure the 24-year-old’s long-term future and there were concerns at the San Siro after Conte was named as potential candidate to replace Solskjaer.
The manager had thought about Barella as his first target, had he managed to land the United job.
Even before the thought could have converted into a ‘real and concrete assault’, the track has ‘vanished’ since Conte will not ended up at Manchester United. With this, the player has also ‘avoided the temptation of the Red Devils’.
Conte not moving to United and Barella not opening the door to Tottenham will come as a boost for Inter, who should tie down their star to a new deal until 2026, later this week.
