Mohamed Salah’s future at Liverpool continues to be uncertain as his contract at the club runs out in the summer of 2025.
If the Egyptian departs Anfield, Liverpool will have to strengthen their attack through new signings and replacing a player of Salah’s stature is not easy.
With Federico Chiesa yet to settle in on Merseyside, another player from Serie A could bolster the Liverpool attack next summer.
Calciomercato.it believe that the player in question is Marcus Thuram and the Reds are said to be leading the race for the Frenchman, who was previously a target for Paris Saint-Germain as well.
The striker is said to be on Liverpool’s shortlist to potentially replace Salah. Since he joined Inter Milan on a free transfer, the 27-year-old’s sale could hand the Nerazzurri a big capital gain that they can use in the market.
For now though, Inter would only let Thuram leave for a major fee, with suggestions they may event want his €85m release clause triggered by a potential suitor.
All of this again feels like an effort to hype Thuram beyond the level he is at. Liverpool paying €85m for him feels wildly unrealistic, and the Italian media may simply be using the rumour to praise Inter Milan for making a good value signing.
