This weekend, Nottingham Forest manager Aitor Karanka has spoken to the English press saying he’s not planning to sign a goalkeeper this summer.

Well, the news were taken as a surprise by the Portuguese media, who were expecting the Championship side to get Bruno Varela from Benfica.

Newspaper A Bola reports it today, saying that Varela has ‘gone out of Nottingham Forest’s focus’. They write as if the club was interested, and then gave up on the chase.

As A Bola won’t fight Karanka’s own words, the outlet doesn’t have much to say this time, and accepts that Forest aren’t chasing Varela anymore.

A Bola still insists a little bit saying that Varela is available, as Benfica will continue listening to the offers. As reported by themselves on Saturday, his exit process hasn’t had any developments in the past week.

The Eagles were hopeful that Nottingham Forest would be paying at least €15m to sign the goalkeeper, but apparently, they will have to find someone else to buy him.

This all sounds like Benfica seeing an opportunity and hoping Jorge Mendes could help them out again.
