On Thursday we covered an article from Mundo Deportivo which detailed Tottenham and Liverpool as potential problems for Barcelona with Leon Goretzka.
Schalke were said to be determined to keep Goretzka until the summer, when his contract ends, even if it means losing him on a free transfer.
Despite the Catalan newspaper stating Goretzka’s desire is to join Barcelona, there’s still worry other clubs could change that. Whilst Bayern Munich were said to have dropped their interest, something which may not be entirely true, Tottenham, Liverpool and Juventus were presented as dangers.
It came on the same day Oliver Bierhoff, who has a role with the German national team, suggested young players from the Bundesliga, with Goretzka name-checked, would look to move to the Premier League.
Bierhoff later clarified that he was speaking hypothetically, but the story was already out there. Tottenham and Liverpool had been offered a big boost.
Friday’s edition of Mundo Deportivo has one of the best headlines this week, stating: ‘Goretzka will ‘decide’ his future in Benidorm’
That never sounds like a good idea. But, as the Catalan newspaper explain, they mean during Schalke’s mini preseason in January, not on a drinking holiday down the strip.
Tottenham and Liverpool are mentioned again and, in positive news for Mauricio Pochettino and Jurgen Klopp, Mundo Deportivo don’t sound quite as confident as they did on Thursday.
In Benidorm, anything can happen.
