Standard Liege defender Nathan Ngoy may be secretly happy his move to Luton Town has collapsed, as he was not all that keen on the switch.
That’s according to DH Net, who provide extra details on the matter today after reports he’d been sent back to Belgium.
The newspaper reports that Ngoy’s failed move shows once again that nothing is done until it’s signed after an agreement was finalised last week.
Ngoy was even in England over the weekend to undergo a medical at Luton and a €5m deal was basically done.
Then it collapsed at the beginning of this week, although not because of physical issues. Ngoy is returning from a muscle injury but that did not present any problems.
Instead, the transfer was cancelled because the decision makers at Luton decided on a change of plans internally. There have reportedly been internal disagreements at the club after picking up one point from nine at the beginning of the season.
That’s seen a change in priorities and the deal for Ngoy aborted. Something which the player isn’t overly upset about.
He’s very attached to Standard and was ‘not obsessed’ with leaving, still preferring to play in the Jupiler Pro League. He was also not excited about moving to Luton in the Championship but would have done it to help Standard’s finances.
While he’s happy returning, the Belgian club aren’t as they desperately need the ‘precious millions’ from a sale and this sale would have been nice for them in that regard.
They could perhaps look to sell elsewhere but the defender won’t be going to Luton, who have abandoned the idea completely.
