Thursday morning saw Kicker come out with a surprise claim that Stefan Ortega is ‘about to move’ to Manchester City.

This claim on the goalkeeper’s impending move to the Etihad was further backed up by Sky Deutschland reporter Dirk Schlarmann.

Ortega’s current deal at Arminia Bielefeld runs down on June 30th and he will leave them for the second time, as a free agent, after they were relegated from the Bundesliga last term.

Schlarmann’s colleague at Sky, Florian Plettenberg, took to Twitter to provide an update on this case.

According to Plettenberg, the 29-year-old’s medical with the Premier League winners should take place ‘next week’. Once he clears these tests, he will sign a three-year deal with Pep Guardiola’s side.

The journalist is of the belief Ortega has been ‘one of the best goalkeepers’ in Germany. Last season, he conceded 53 goals and kept six clean sheets from 33 league matches.

At Manchester City, Ortega is likely to act as a backup for Guardiola’s first-choice keeper, Ederson.
