Following a transfer from Arsenal this summer, Marcelo Flores made his debut at the weekend for Tigres.
The midfielder may only have had 20 minutes on the pitch in a match which was already lost, but his appearance was enough for TUDN to write a story on his performance.
The outlet highlights that despite having few opportunities to get the ball, he ‘represented’ one of the ‘strongest symptoms of frustration’ that Tigres had during the 2-0 loss, by making a strong tackle and ‘triggering a small fight’ with Atlas players.
TUDN talks about how Flores is one of the ‘big bets’ his club have for the season. He may not have had big success at Arsenal, but his past in European football is something that creates great expectations around him.
Tigres manager Robert Siboldi spoke to the local media after the loss, and had a few words about Flores, claiming it’s important that he starts getting the rhythm of Mexican football.
The quotes are from AS.
“The only thing left to do is to keep looking for minutes for the young players that we were able to see today, it’s important that Marcelo, who has just arrived, comes into play. The positive thing is that today we were able to give minutes to the youngsters and that we’re continuing to make progress in this area.”
Flores arrived at Arsenal in a move from Ipswich Town in 2019. With no appearances for the Gunners’ first team, he was sold to Tigres in a deal worth €815k.
