While the focus of Manchester City facing Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League remains Erling Haaland, there are other players who were hoping to have an impact on the game.

One of those will have been Marco Reus, who returned to the club in 2012 after seven years away, and has since become part of the furniture.

Despite multiple injury issues over the years, he remains an active and key part of the team at 33 years of age, which is why the news he will be absent against Manchester City is a big one.

The attacking midfielder has featured 11 times for Dortmund this season to date, scoring three goals and assisting another four, which included setting up Jude Bellingham in the 2-1 loss to Pep Guardiola’s side at the Etihad back in mid-September.

He was always a doubt to feature following recent ankle issues, and Patrick Berger, reporting for Sport 1 on Twitter, confirmed that, claiming Reus has ‘lost the race against time’ to play against Manchester City, meaning the team captain is ‘definitely not available’ for the fixture.

Having recently missed the two games against Sevilla, he will now watch his teammates face the table leaders from the stands, hoping to be back for his team’s final game of the group stages against FC Copenhagen.
