Tottenham Hotspur have been trying to sign Sporting’s Pedro Porro since the start of the winter market.
On Monday morning, the deal was at standstill since there was a difference of €3m between the two clubs.
Later that day, Record reported Tottenham were successful in finding an agreement with the Lions for a deal worth around €47.5m. Spurs will also give up 15% of the rights they retain for Sporting’s Marcus Edwards.
After the two teams agreed a deal for the Spaniard, he travelled to London to seal a move to the Premier League side. Prior to boarding the flight, the player was stopped by reporters outside the Humberto Delgado Airport, where he was asked if he refused to train yesterday.
“No. I only asked because I was negotiating, my head wasn’t right. I am very grateful to Sporting, and Sporting understood the situation,” the 23-year-old was quoted as saying by O Jogo.
On his impending move to the north London club, Porro explained: “I’m very happy with this step, but I’m leaving a club that gave me everything. I’m very grateful and hope everything goes well for them.
“I leave many friends, they know that since I arrived I’m very grateful. I have to make my life and chase my dream.”
When asked if he had held talks with Spurs manager Antonio Conte, he said: “No not yet.”
Porro was spotted outside the Lisbon airport late on Monday and he should already be in London today to complete a move to Tottenham.
