Needing to leave Newcastle United in the summer as he wasn’t going to feature under Eddie Howe all that much, Isaac Hayden ended up going to Standard Liège on loan.
He has played a little bit there, totalling 10 appearances in all competitions for the Belgian side, but, according to Sacha Tavolieri, he isn’t very happy.
It has nothing to do with football, and it’s the personal side of things that mean the Newcastle man ‘could very well leave’ Standard Liège in January.
Tavolieri explains the defensive midfielder is still living at a hotel, one where there isn’t much to do, meaning he isn’t as settled as he wants to be, and is also missing his young daughter.
Therefore, there is a strong chance that Hayden could return to Newcastle in the January transfer window, with that possibility made easy by his deal.
Tavolieri explained: “He has clauses in his loan contract that will allow him to go back and train with Newcastle if he wants to, so he could go back as early as January and leave Standard Liège.”
Prior to his move to Belgium, the Newcastle midfielder, who is contracted at St James’ Park until 2026, spent the previous campaign on loan at Norwich for the entirety of the 2022-23 seaosn.
