Borussia Monchengladbach defender Nico Elvedi has been left in limbo at the club as a potential move to Wolverhampton Wanderers has been stuck ‘for weeks’.
That’s according to Kicker, who cover how the player wants to leave the German club this summer but has found his path to Molineux blocked by ‘financial obstacles’.
The newspaper covers Elvedi and how he has found himself on the bench at the start of the season, with manager Gerardo Seoane preferring other options given the Swiss defender wants to depart.
Elvedi has made it clear he ‘would like to leave’ and even submitted a transfer request to the club some time ago but there has been little progress on that front.
Wolves have made it clear they would like to sign the defender and talks have been ongoing for a while but ‘financial obstacles’ have been ‘preventing a transfer for weeks’ according to Kicker.
Those financial obstacles are well known, with Wolves undergoing something of an overhaul this summer and selling off top talent in an effort to balance the books.
They seemingly don’t have much money to spend on incoming players, a fact that saw Julen Lopetegui leave the club before the season began.
That’s made matching Gladbach’s demands for Elvedi impossible, something that was reported at the beginning of this month and Kicker now back up.
It’s left the player in limbo at the German club, waiting to see if Wolves or other suitors finally move for him or he ends up staying, an awkward proposition given his public desire to move on.
