Despite being contracted to Tottenham until the end of next season, it seems highly unlikely that Erik Lamela will be at the club beyond the current campaign.

Hardly used as a starter under José Mourinho, the Argentine’s is mostly remembered of late for *that* goal against Arsenal followed by his red card in the same game.

Beyond that, it appears his future is somewhere other than Tottenham, and a return to Italy has been strongly rumoured.

Napoli appear to be the interested side, and it’s explained by Corriere dello Sport that they have ‘started talking to Lamela’, with the player described as ‘leaving’ Spurs.

While he does have 33 appearances to his name this season, only 13 of those have been starts, and even Ryan Mason, thrown in at the deep end as interim manager following the sacking of Mourinho, can only fit him in as a substitute.

Basically, it seems Lamela will be leaving London in the summer, and now it’s just a matter of finding out where and whether he’ll do so on a free or for a small amount of money.
