Djurgårdens IF striker August Priske has today left training early amid reports of a deal being close with Birmingham City.
That’s according to Expressen. They provide the latest on the striker today after reports earlier indicated a move to St Andrew’s was on the cards.
Those reports stated that Birmingham had jumped to the front of the queue for Priske ahead of European competition. They were reportedly pushing to get a deal done for him as soon as possible.
Expressen back that up, reporting that Birmingham City are ‘leading the hunt’ for the striker. According to their information, Birmingham are negotiating with Djurgården, and the two clubs are close to an agreement.
That is seemingly backed up by what Priske did during pre-season today. According to Expressen, he was initially part of the session and then left early.
The newspaper also carry comments from Djurgårdens IF sports director Bosse Andersson. He confirmed that the striker had left early because of the transfer talks.
“There has been contact with a lot of clubs during this transfer window. Since there is speculation. We have control of the situation, and know which clubs are the most concrete,” he said.
“We’ve have discussed with many clubs. We will keep the specific ones to ourselves,” he added when asked specifically about Birmingham City.
He was then asked about the player leaving early and whether that meant an exit was approaching.
“Yes, that could be the case. But it is clear that we have discussions with clubs, where we know what the conditions are for a transfer. Yes, it is clear, then maybe we should be a little careful.”
Birmingham City unlikely to break Bergvall record
The question was then put to him about the transfer fee. So far, the various reports have not explained what Birmingham will pay.
“He will beat Lucas Bergvall. Otherwise, he will play in Djurgården in 2026,” Andersson had previously said.
For reference, Tottenham paid €10m for Bergvall, which then hit €20m once bonuses were triggered.
Asked about that again, he didn’t appear quite as confident: “We have had demands. Then it is a difficult market during the winter and that part. We will have to come back to that and comment in such cases.”
