During the build-up to the match between Marseille and Lyon, Clinton N’Jie was a star of the show. The former Tottenham Hotspur player had come through the ranks at Lyon, before leaving for London and the Premier League.
When Marseille were trying to complete a deal to sign N’Jie during the summer, there were constant reports of Lyon considering swooping in themselves, which added something else to the dynamic.
N’Jie didn’t start the match against Lyon, but had the chance to win it for Marseille. In injury time at the end of the game, a defensive error put N’Jie through on goal and his moment of glory and instant hero status stood before him, but he fluffed it.

French newspaper L’Equipe say it left manager Franck Passi ‘crouching by the touchline, his head in both his hands’, as the match finished 0-0.
That’s football, N’Jie was so close to being the hero against his former club, and perhaps suggesting they should have re-signed him, but ended up the subject of frustration from his old team and no doubt outright mockery from his old one.
