Brighton & Hove Albion are keen on signing Feyenoord’s Mats Wieffer in the summer window.
AC Milan have already shown interest in the midfielder, but it’s Brighton who are ‘decisive’ and ‘do everything they can’ to sign him.
That’s according to 1908.nl, who say the Seagulls are the ‘first concrete candidate’ who have moved to try and secure 24-year-old’s services.
The Premier League side have now registered their concrete interest with the Dutch club after closely following the player for more than a season.
It’s claimed Brighton have tabled the first bid. although there’s no mention of the fee proposed by them. The Netherlands international’s deal lasts until 2027 and Transfermarkt value him at €30m.
According to 1908.nl, the Eredivisie side will need £30m [€35.4m] to sanction Wieffer’s sale this summer.
The website believes Brighton are looking at the Dutchman to replace Pascal Groß. The 33-year-old Germany international, who has a year left on his contract, is widely expected to leave The Amex in this window.
Wieffer is keen on joining Brighton and the report says he’s ‘now waiting patiently’ for the two clubs to carry out the negotiations.
The Seagulls would be pleased to know that Feyenoord are aware it’ll be difficult to retain the player and they have already identified his successor.
