Loris Karius could be set for a glamorous move to AC Milan this summer after leaving Newcastle United on a free transfer.
That’s according to Calciomercato, who say Milan are looking for a replacement for Marco Sportiello and could turn to the former Newcastle man.
Sportiello is set for an extended spell on the sidelines after picking up a serious injury in pre-season, forcing Milan to change their plans and now enter the market for a goalkeeper.
They only need a substitute for Mike Maignan and not someone long-term as Sportiello is set to be out for around two months, and so they are exploring low-cost or even free options.
Karius falls into the latter category after leaving Newcastle earlier this month and has been offered to the Italian side.
He’s been talking up a potential move to Italy for months, largely pushed by his partner’s desire, and Milan would be an ideal option for him. Hence why it seems he’s offered himself to try and take advantage of the unfortunate situation with Sportiello.
One potential problem is that Milan may prefer signing an Italian player as their squad is currently short on that front, thus ruling out Karius, but it seems the Newcastle man has tried his luck either way.
