Midfielder Mohamed Dahoud has insisted he does not regret his move to Brighton and Hove Albion in the summer, even though he ultimately left in the January transfer window.
The 28-year-old has been speaking to Stuttgarter Nachrichten about his move to the Seagulls, which didn’t worked out as planned.
He joined Roberto de Zerbi’s side on a free transfer from Borussia Dortmund, sealing his first move out of Germany following spells with Dusseldorf, Borussia Monchengladbach and then Dortmund.
He arrived at Brighton to help cover for the loss of the likes of Alexis Mac Allister and Moises Caicedo, who had both departed in major moves to Liverpool and Chelsea.
He was initially thrown straight into the first team by manager Roberto De Zerbi and a part of his plans but, following a 45-minute appearances in the 1-1 draw with Burnley in November spent the next four games sat on the bench before being left out of the squad entirely.
That prompted a departure in January and loan move to Stuttgart, where his prospects are yet to completely improve as he finds himself currently sat on the bench.
Most would see his move to Brighton as something of a mistake, but he insists that’s not the case, particularly as he got to work under Roberto de Zerbi.
“First of all, I want to say that I don’t regret moving to Brighton at all,” he said.
“On the contrary: what I experienced there in the first few months definitely helped me move forward. Even though it’s only been six months so far, I’ve become a better footballer.
“Because of working under coach Roberto de Zerbi. What he demands in every training session is enormous. It’s always intense, physically and tactically. If you are not positioned exactly where the coach wants you, this will immediately be corrected loudly.
“The same applies if the timing of the back pass or the route is not exactly right. Players who have been there for a long time know all this. When you’re new to this group, it’s really challenging.”
