Fabio Borini’s time with Liverpool has been recalled in an interview he’s given the Turkish media this week.
The striker, who agreed to a contract with Karagümrük in January, is now introducing himself to the local press, and giving a few interviews about his past in the Premier League and Serie A.
Speaking to Tam Saha, he talked about his entire career, and made it clear he has some special feelings for the Reds, claiming he couldn’t turn down the chance to go and play for them.
First speaking of his move from Roma to Anfield, he said: “First of all I missed England. Apart from that, Liverpool are a very good club. It’s the best club in the world for me. In my opinion, the team with the highest number of fans in the world.
“You cannot easily say ‘no’ when such clubs come to you. They had a big shot for me and I accepted it.”
As he only spent one year at Anfield before moving to Sunderland, he was asked about the reasons for the move.
“The reason I switched from Liverpool to Sunderland was because of my desire to be ‘an important player in a team’. I was no longer a player in the team.
“That was the most important part for me. I’m really happy with the time I spent there. The happiness and passion of the people there was very important and pleasant to me. So once again, after coming back to Liverpool, I didn’t get enough of the chance to perform. I went to Sunderland.”
Borini signed for Liverpool in a €13.3m deal from Roma in 2012. He stayed at the club for a year and left in 2013 on a loan deal to Sunderland.
When returning, he had another season with the Anfield side, but with the few chances he mentioned in the interview, he ended up moving again to the Black Cats, this time on a permanent move in 2015.
In 38 appearances for the Reds, he had three goals and three assists.
