Philippe Coutinho has made four appearances and had less than three hours of action since his move to Vasco da Gama, and has unfortunately already fallen victim to injury.
The Brazilian moved to Vasco this summer on what was initially supposed to be a permanent move. There were even claims Aston Villa would terminate the player’s contract, but then, unsurprisingly, there was difficulty reaching a financial agreement on that.
Vasco instead took the player on loan, with Coutinho’s Aston Villa contract still running until June 2026.
The 32-year-old wasn’t fit when he turned up at his new club, and has now picked up an issue in training. TNT Brazil report he felt something in training on Sunday, and then tests on Monday reveal he’s got an injury on ‘the back of his thigh’.
That’s almost certainly a hamstring injury, with Coutinho’s long term history of such issues turning up to haunt him once again.
TNT Brazil report the player will be absent for Vasco’s upcoming matches although they don’t reveal a return date at this stage. For Coutinho’s new club it’s a huge disappointment given the big hope attached to his arrival.
