Chelsea forward Hakim Ziyech is ‘increasingly distant’ from the club, but there is ‘a lot of work to be done’ if AC Milan are to secure his signature.
That’s according to Sport Mediaset, who cover the Italian side’s ongoing interest in the Moroccan today and a possible move in January.
They report that the Serie A side remain keen on the Chelsea man, although his performances at the World Cup could ‘attract the attention’ of other clubs and increase the competition for him.
Nonetheless, Milan have repeatedly showed interest in Ziyech and have been ‘trying for some time’ to reach an agreement with the player before working on one with Chelsea.
That wasn’t possible in the summer, but things will change in January, although it will require the player reducing his wages first.
He earns €6m a year at Chelsea and that figure is ‘too high’ for the Rossoneri, who will need him to bring that figure down before a deal can be struck.
The club could therefore ‘make a blitz’ in Qatar in the coming days before joining the rest of the Milanese group on their retreat in Doha.
Once the green light has been given by Ziyech, who has made it clear he would like the move, the ‘offensive’ with Chelsea will begin in earnest. The hope is that the good relations of the last few years can be renewed and lead to an agreement.
The plan is to try and secure a six-month loan with a right of redemption set at €15m. Time is running out for that agreement to be struck, but there is a will to get it done quickly.
Milan want the player in the squad as quickly as possible so he can integrate himself and adapt to his new manager.
The plan is clear, either way, and the long running Ziyech saga appears likely to pick up again in the coming weeks.
