Liverpool and Newcastle United are among the few clubs to have been credited with interest in Juventus’ Federico Chiesa.
On July 8th, Gazzetta dello Sport stated the Reds and Eddie Howe’s side are competing to sign the forward. Last week, Corriere della Sera said he’s tempted to join the Magpies and the appreciation was mutual.
Italian journalist Marco Guidi has now told Calciomercato.it’s TV Play that Liverpool and Newcastle are seen as options for the 25-year-old this summer.
Guidi adds the player currently prefers Jürgen Klopp’s side ahead of the Tyneside club.
“The player would be more inclined to sign for a classic top club, such as Liverpool or Bayern Munich,” he said.
As things stand, it’s not clear whether the Serie A side will allow the Italy international to leave and if they do, the journalist says the conditions have not been made clear yet.
According to Guidi, the attacker would only consider the possibility of joining Newcastle if there are not many options left on the table for him. He also adds it’s not clear whether Howe’s side are ready to make an approach for Chiesa.
“If Newcastle have the economic strength they will try to take Chiesa. The Newcastle option could only be taken into consideration at the end of the transfer market, in the case of few offers on the plate,” Guidi explained.
Chiesa managed four goals and six assists from 33 games last season.
