Four days ago, Voetbaal international reported Aston Villa have expressed their interest in Feyenoord’s Lutsharel Geertruida.
It was also suggested the Dutch club could part ways with him this summer as he has less than a year left on his deal. As well as the Villans, Paris Saint-Germain are in the picture for the defender.
That’s according to Foot Mercato, who say Aston Villa’s interest in the 24-year-old is ‘bad news’ for the Ligue 1 winners. That’s because he’s in ‘advanced discussions’ with the Birmingham club.
The Netherlands international mainly prefers to operate as a right-back but can be used in other positions in the back line and also as a defensive midfielder. PSG have long had the versatile player on their radar.
He has shown his willingness to join them, while the possibility of joining Unai Emery’s side also appeals to the player. Aston Villa are also ‘pushing hard’ to sign the Dutchman and have made him their priority defensive target.
Foot Mercato say the defender is valued at €32m and this doesn’t ‘scare’ Aston Villa. They took this valuation from Transfermarkt, but the price could be much lower considering his deal expires in 2025.
Aston Villa ‘go on the offensive’ to sign Geertruida and whether they can get this deal over the line remains to be seen.
