Austrian defender Kevin Wimmer has struggled to be involved enough at Tottenham after his €6m move from FC Koln.

The 23-year-old was rarely used last season by Mauricio Pochettinho, and has managed just an EFL Cup appearance this season.

However, Wimmer was called up for the World Cup qualifiers, and even started the match against Wales.

The Tottenham defender started as a left back, and scored an own goal, but Austrian boss Marcel Koller seems to be quite satisfied with Wimmer’s performance.

He told Kleine Zeitung: “There was a certain risk, because he has not played recently, but he knows English football and has a lot of calmness. He has donethings quite well.”

Wimmer has played a few times at left back at FC Koln, but that was in the German second division and the player insists there wasn’t much time to adapt.

He said: “Sure, it’s a bit strange because the processes are a bit different. There was not much time to adapt to it, but I have tried to make the best of it.”

Wimmer’s performance at left back has been praised in the Austrian media, and they were keen to know what the player’s future holds. Kleine Zeitung says a January move isn’t ruled out quote Wimmer as saying: “We’ll see what the next weeks will bring. We have some midweek matches.”

Ultimately, it’s all down to Mauricio Pochettino and how much football he wants to send the way of the Austrian defender. If the Argentine manager can squeeze Wimmer in more often then a transfer, or at least a loan, wouldn’t be a surprise.
