West Ham United are in the picture to sign VfL Bochum’s Cajetan Lenz.
That’s according to Sky Deutschland, and they cover approaches made by several clubs, including West Ham.
The 19-year-old was born in Bochum and came through the ranks of their academy. He was promoted to the first team at the start of this season and has played 14 matches so far.
Lenz quickly established himself and became a key player for the second division German club. His performances have seen him attract attention from others.
Sky states this includes every Bundesliga side except Bayern Munich. The defensive midfielder has also caught the attention of clubs outside Germany, with only West Ham mentioned.
It’s claimed the Germany U20 international is ‘highly sought after’ by the Hammers. The report adds Nuno Espírito Santo’s side have made an approach to ask about the player.
West Ham are in tussle to sign Lenz, and it’s not specified whether they are looking at him for January or next summer.
Lenz’s agent Makram Naceur has told Sky that he’s been approached by numerous clubs.
“I can confirm that many clubs, both domestic and international, have contacted me. However, Cajetan is completely focused on his boyhood club, VfL Bochum,” he said.
Lenz’s contract expires in 2029, and Transfer currently valued him at €1.5m. West Ham or another team would have to pay much more than that to secure his services, if he decides to change clubs.
