On Monday, we covered claims from Germany that RB Leipzig were moving ahead of Leeds United to sign Josko Gvardiol.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side had made serious efforts for the defender, and Dinamo Zagreb were willing to listen to their offers, but the player wasn’t keen on the move. He didn’t feel ready for the switch and wanted a further year in Croatia, something the Bundesliga club are willing to offer.

Leipzig are prepared to agree a deal now, leave Gvardiol at Dinamo, and then take him next summer when it’s expected Dayot Upamecano will leave the German club.

Leeds United have therefore moved on and are in the process of signing another defensive target.

Earlier today, Marca backed up English claims of an approach for Diego Llorente. Talks were said to be ongoing with Real Sociedad and there seemed confidence around a deal.

Mundo Deportivo reported La Real would be open to the transfer, so they could then use the funds to bring in a left-footed central defender, something their manager has requested.

Noticias de Gipuzkoa, which is a Basque source, states Llorente is ‘heading to Leeds’. They then go on to say the transfer could be ‘closed’ today.

Real Sociedad have been ‘willing to listen to offers’, and it’s suggested Marcelo Bielsa’s side may end up paying more than €20m.
