Over the last week or so, Chelsea have been pushed forward as the main contender to take Jules Koundé.

The defender ‘trains normally’, ‘pending’ an offer from the Blues and them finding an agreement with Sevilla.

That’s according to Diario de Sevilla, and the defender’s case is compared to the west London club’s failure to sign Dani Alves in 2007.

It’s claimed the Brazilian, like the 22-year-old, had an ‘irrefutable agreement’ with the Premier League side. Sevilla were about to close the right-back’s sale for €35m, before ‘Roman Abramovich did not compromise with the last demand of Sevilla’.

Alves, who was left unimpressed, moved to Barcelona a year later for €40m and enjoyed a successful spell with the Catalan club. In his case, ‘everyone came out winning’ in the end, except Chelsea.

Diario de Sevilla points out that ‘pending the agreement’ between the Champions League winners and the Spanish club, the centre-back is training normally, without showing any ‘gesture of rebellion’.

To sum it up, Koundé has an ‘irrefutable agreement’ with Thomas Tuchel’s side, and the deal is ‘pending’ as Chelsea must find an agreement with Sevilla.

It remains to be seen whether Abramovich and Chelsea will meet Sevilla’s ‘last demand’ for Koundé.

Meanwhile, Chelsea have stepped up their efforts to re-sign Romelu Lukaku and are on the right track to bring the striker from Inter Milan in a deal excess of €100m.

Marca explain that Koundé ‘waits, while Chelsea go for Lukaku’. The Frenchman, for now, trains normally, without knowing whether he will continue in La Liga or move to England.
