It’s been a few months since Everton were last linked to Napoli defender Nikola Maksimovic, but the rumours seem to be back now.

As journalist Ciro Venerato was live on Radio Kiss Kiss today, he claimed that the player could end up moving to the Toffees for free.

His contract with Napoli expires at the end of the season, and since it’s unlikely he’ll sign an extension at this stage, Goodison Park could be a potential destination.

“He could most likely go away. There are rumours but Napoli have made it clear that the relationship with the player will not continue if the player’s requests remain the current ones,” said Ciro Venerato (via Napoli Magazine).

“Makismovic will be released in June. To date, the player is still a fan of Ancelotti and could be a great opportunity for Everton, who could take him on a free transfer.”

Despite having started all of Napoli’s Europa League games so far, Nikola Maksimovic has spent most of the Serie A season on the bench, only featuring in one game as a substitute.

Everton were linked to the player in the summer, when Napoli were obviously looking for a fee to let him go. Now showing up as a free agent, perhaps he becomes a more viable signing for the Toffees.
