On Thursday evening, we covered claims about a late Manchester United offer for Facundo Pellistri.
The Peñarol youngster had been on the verge of a move to Lyon, before last minute problems held up the deal. Whilst it was made clear the Ligue 1 side remain favourites, the Red Devils were said to have made an offer both to the Uruguayan club and the 18-year-old.
Since then there’s been developments, rather serious ones.
Ovacion, a major source in Uruguay, first covered the Manchester United interest, before bringing the dramatic latest news.
They report that Pellistri has gone AWOL from his club, trying to force a transfer before the window closes. Lyon get the attention, and it’s explained the player, his representatives and his family are going through ‘great discomfort’, due to Peñarol’s unwillingness to let him go.
Wanting to keep hold of the winger, who mainly plays on the right side, until December, the club have been rejecting offers for an immediate move. Therefore, Pellistri has left their ‘health bubble’, which means he’d have to go through quarantine to return to the squad, such are the Covid-19 regulations in his country.
The youngster will now certainly miss his club’s next match and face a fine, and a source close to the club said: “He made an important mistake. He wanted to pull a big Messi and put pressure on us by not training and leaving the bubble in Los Aromos.”
