Málaga’s Antonio Cordero, also known as Antoñito, could be heading to Newcastle United in the summer window.

That’s according to Diario Sur, relayed by El Desmarque, who explain the 18-year-old is ‘getting closer and closer’ to Newcastle.

The winger returned to Málaga in 2023 and has been a regular this season, scoring four goals and registering six assists from 26 league games.

His performances for the second division club have caught the attention of other clubs and Newcastle are one of them. His contract expires in June and Málaga have made a renewal offer.

According to the report, the initial proposal has been deemed insufficient by the teenager. The improved offer didn’t convince his agent as he felt the release clause was too high for the salary offered.

Therefore, Antoñito is unlikely to sign an extension, and his future could be away from the Spanish club.

Arsenal and Manchester City are keeping an eye on the youngster, but Newcastle seem to be his next destination.

Antoñito’s relatives have made a trip to the UK to visit Newcastle’s facilities. The Magpies have stepped up and the ‘negotiations are about to be closed’, but the report warns last-minute surprises can’t be ruled out.

Everything indicates Newcastle are the ‘chosen one’ and the Spain U19 international’s final decision is awaited.
