On July 21st, Sky Deutschland journalist Florian Plettenberg stated Manchester City’s bid for Joško Gvardiol is well below the €100m fee requested by RB Leipzig.
Later that day, the German club’s sporting director, Max Eberl, admitted the Citizens want to sign the defender and that Gvardiol is also keen on making the switch to the Etihad.
The 21-year-old has already reached an agreement with Manchester City for a five-year deal. This is reported again by Calciomercato.it, who then say he’s ‘getting closer’ to the treble winners.
Earlier, the Bundesliga side had ‘threatened’ to put their foot down and keep the player, but there are new developments in this saga.
It’s stated Leipzig have resumed talks with Pep Guardiola’s side and these ‘new contacts’ should ‘give a new acceleration’ to the operation to take the Croatia international to the Etihad.
The report adds the deal could be closed for €100m plus a percentage of a fee from Gvardiol’s future sale.
Sources close to the negotiations have told Calciomercato.it about a ‘possible definitive closure within this week’, provided there are no new twists. Therefore, the website says the player is ‘getting closer’ to Manchester City.
