With two goals and four assists in his first four games of the season for Djurgården this season, Lucas Bergvall is showing exactly why Tottenham moved quickly to sign him.
Spurs were in a battle with Barcelona to sign the 18-year-old midfielder, and eventually saw off the challenge from the Catalans for the youngster, who will be joining Ange Postecoglou’s squad in the summer.
Sportbladet cover the player’s rise and continued good form on Monday, and point out just why the Tottenham signing was so coveted.
They say that while it’s ‘easy to get caught up’ in praising his intelligence, movement and technique, he is also someone who has ‘courage, resilience and timing’ once he gets in the box, as well as a size that makes him an ‘unpleasant opponent’.
Once overly eager to always be on the end of things, the midfielder has ‘peeled away that puppiness’ and matured as a player.
It’s recalled that when he did agree to go to Tottenham, some were quick to question whether the player should be a starter at Djurgården, but two months later and that debate ‘appears completely moronic and laughable’.
He is described as a ‘truly unique talent’ in the sense that he seems to get ‘5-10% better every game he plays’.
That’s great news for Tottenham, who now look set to be getting an even better footballer than the one they signed in January if everything keeps going in that direction.
