Ben Godfrey moved from Everton to Atalanta in June 2024, and there were quickly murmurs around the Bergamo club that he was struggling to fit in.
Gian Piero Gasperini, now manager at AS Roma, was then in charge at Atalanta and he’s well known for having a tough tactical set up that not all players can work in. For some, it was over for Godfrey before it had really begun.
There’s been reports throughout the summer that the Serie A club were looking to sell Godfrey to andEnglish club, hoping for some Premier League money. Sheffield United, however, appear to have taken advantage of a lack of interest in a permanent deal.
Gianluca Di Marzio reports the 27-year-old central defender is set to move to Sheffield United on loan for the rest of the season. Godfrey is even pictured at Milan’s Linate airport, and he’s flying into England right now.
Presumably Sheffield United will then go through the formalities over the next couple of days.
