João Gomes’ transfer to Wolverhampton Wanderers is now done, according to reports from Brazil.
Journalist Venê Casagrande claims that despite the recent tussle with Lyon, Wolves have won the race and the player is about to move to England.
It’s true that Julen Lopetegui’s side, who had first offered €17m for the midfielder, had been outbid by the French club, who put €18m on the table.
But with the player insisting on keeping his word with Wolverhampton, the negotiations dragged for days until his wish was attended.
According to Casagrande, Gomes and his staff even claimed they’d give up on their part of the money just so Flamengo would accept Wolves’ offer.
However, after conversations, even the English club raised the bid a little, and the deal was done for €18.7m, and that’s not including €1.5m in bonuses on top and 10% of a future sale.
It’s said Flamengo president Rodolfo Landim has already signed the sale, and Gomes already signed the pre-contract for a deal until 2028.
The player is set to travel to England today or tomorrow to complete the transfer, and unlike the first time, when he had a flight scheduled and the deal nearly collapsed, there should be nothing blocking him this time.
