With Fotis Ioannidis being Sporting’s main target in the transfer window so far, the Portuguese media continues to have numerous stories about the race for this signing.
And since it was recently reported that Panathinaikos turned down an offer from Ipswich Town for the striker, there’s been some worry about the Lions potentially losing the race.
Now as newspaper O Jogo today writes about this situation, they insist that Sporting should actually be calm about that specific competition.
The outlet claims that even though Ioannidis has the ‘dream’ to play in the Premier League, he had no problem with Panathinaikos turning down Ipswich Town’s offer.
It’s claimed that he wants a ‘safe and consistent step’ when making a move, and that means signing a long-term contract with a club of another ‘dimension’.
Sporting, who just won Liga Portugal, will be in the Champions League next season. Those are a couple of factors which can make them more confident about the signing, although Ipswich Town already put €22m on the table, and the Lions are still to outbid them.
