Takumi Minamino seems to be finding some redemption in French football after struggling a little with Liverpool.

The 29-year-old is today much praised in a story from Foot Mercato, who highlight his performance in AS Monaco’s 3-2 away win against Lens.

The outlet points out that Minamino returned from the Asian Cup in ‘good shape’ and helped his side by getting involved in two goals. He’s called the team’s ‘X Factor’, someone who can change everything.

Despite missing out during his time with Japan, Minamino has seven goals and five assists in 21 appearances, and Monaco should be glad of the investment they made to take him from Liverpool.

His teammate Aleksandr Golovin is quoted calling him the “new Cafu”, while manager Adi Hutter highlighted that “he had a very good match”.

“Regarding his positioning, we had thought of Edan Diop who has a more defensive profile but we decided to trust him. Wilfried Singo helped him a lot, he gave a lot of himself, he brings stability,” said the coach.

Minamino arrived at Liverpool in January 2020, making 55 appearances for the club, also getting in a loan at Southampton in his time in England. It was in the summer of 2022 that the Reds decided to let him go, selling him to Monaco for just €15m.
