With Victor Orta in charge of transfers at Leeds United, it’s fair to say there was a particular focus on Spain and Spanish talent.
A relatively long list of Spanish players came and went through the doors at Elland Road during his time in charge and one of those was striker Rafa Mujica.
He now finds himself playing in Portugal with Arouca and it seems he’s finally finding his feet, at least if O Jogo are to be believed.
They cover the player today and say he is the ‘goal man of a Spanish armada’ that is proving to be ‘fruitful’ for Arouca this season.
Despite less than exciting results, there is a sense of optimism at the Portuguese club thanks to their forward line, something which Mujica is a big part of.
A year later he was moving on a free again, this time to Arouca, and with 18 goals and two assists in 42 games so far, finally appears to be on the right track.
14 goals last year have been followed by four already this year, leading to hopes that he can repeat his goalscoring exploits for Arouca across the campaign.
It’s earning him praise from all corners, particularly those who know him well from his time at Barcelona, where he was highly rated before his move to Leeds.
Indeed, there is already talk he could be good enough to play for one of the bigger teams in Portugal, although he’ll need to keep scoring regularly for them to start sniffing around.
For now, his focus is just doing well with his current club and fulfilling the promise he once showed and appeared to have been lost in Leeds.
